Albert Bridge
London
Albert Bridge, named after Queen Victoria's husband, was fully opened in 1873; alongside Battersea Bridge it was originally a toll bridge, but became free once purchased by the Metropolitan Board of Works in 1878. The bridge was almost removed after the Second World War but was saved for conservation. However, in spite of strengthening in the 1880s and 1970s, the bridge is still quite weak and there are weight restrictions permanently in place.
