Buckland Sand and Silica Co Ltd
Reigate Road, Buckland, Surrey
Originally a family-run business, the quarry was acquired by Amalgamated Roadstone (ARC) in 1978 and subsequently by Hanson in 1990, who still continue to extract sand and silica for providing specialist glass sand to customers throughout the UK.
5 Dec 2009: The original quarry north of the A25 (used in ) is now disused, and has become a nature reserve, but not open to the public.
How to get here:
»
Road: M25 - Exit junction 8 and head south along the A217 towards Reigate. Turn left onto the A25 towards Dorking, and then continue along the road until you reach Buckland; turn right onto Lawrence Lane and the disused quarry is off to the right. +
you can park on the roadside on Lawrence Lane, near a public footpath
There is a footpath that runs through a field alongside the northern ridge of the quarry.
This location is private and has no or limited access only. though the quarry is no longer in use and is now a nature reserve, it isn't open to the public; it is possible to see into the reserve from the field above (footpath), though the area is bounded by hedgerow and a great number of trees have grown up to block the view!

"Quarry works (south of the old quarry) - looks very similar!"
Additional Notes:

Though not used in the story, the newer quarry works demonstrate how the old quarry (trees at the back of the ridge) would have looked back in the 1970s!
