Lee Valley Ice Centre

Built on the southern end of Walthamstow Marshes at Lea Bridge Road, Lee Valley Ice Centre was officially opened by ice skating champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean in January 1984. The international-sized ice rink is regularly used for training, including celebrities engaged upon the ITV [i]Dancing on Ice[/i] competitions. The centre has a Highly Commended QUEST accreditation.

Outside, circuses have continued to perform on the grounds beside the centre.

Underground (Victoria)/Rail: Walthamstow Central - Exit the station to the bus station, and catch the number 48 bus (towards London Bridge). The bus will stop outside the Ice Centre on Lea Bridge Road (stop LB). +

This area used to be gravel-based for parking, as seen in the screen shot. When the Ice Centre was built this area became grassland, leading into the remaining playing fields behind the Centre.

This site holds a special memory for me, as being local I remember being taken to see the circus here in the early 1970s, and also meeting Tom Baker at a local fair held on the playing fields just after he'd started in the show!
