The Straight
Southall

The Straight is a long road that runs alongside the Great Western railway, leading into the heart of the old Southall Gas Works. The road is private, but access is allowed due to it being a public footpath.

How to get here:

»

Rail: Turn right out of the station, and then cross over South Road. Turn left onto Beaconsfield Road and then left again onto The Crescent. This leads into the Straight - continue past the gates and along the road until you reach the gas cylinder. +

"As well as the gasometer, this photo also shows one of the old streetlamps (seen in other screenshots but no longer there), and also an old road sign indicating the speed limit back when the road was in use!"

The gas cylinder in place now isn't in quite the same place as the originals, with the works having shrunk in size since then. The distinctive blue cylinder is visible for many miles - even from Horsenden Hill (Survival!).
