Formerly a parkland, a 4000 acre estate between Storrington and Washington was purchased by Halls Aggregates Ltd/RMC in 1946 for the purpose of extracted aggregate from the sandy area. The company is still active in the area near Storrington (where was filmed), though much of the rest of the estate has since been redeveloped.
