Old Royal Naval College
Romney Road, Greenwich, London, SE10 9LW
The Royal Naval College started life at Greenwich as a charitable hospital to support seamen and their dependents. Conceived by Queen Mary, it was planned by Sir Christopher Wren and work started in 1696; it was finally completed some 50 years later. The hospital closed in 1869 and the Royal Navy then used it as a college. It became public in 1998 when the Navy moved to Shrivenham.
