BBC Television Centre
Shepherd's Bush, London, W12 7RJ
Opened in 1960, Television Centre is considered to be the home of BBC Television and Radio. Designed by Graham Dawbarn, the centre is a circular ("doughnut") arrangement of offices and studios, with a statue to the Greek god of the sun, Helios in its circular court. The central features and Studio 1 were given Grade II listed in 2008.
In 2007 the BBC announced that they would be selling off the Centre as part of streamlining the BBC (and reducing their funding deficit), moving departments to other BBC property (e.g. News to Broadcasting House), with a number of other departments moving to new premised in Salford. In 2010 Director of Vision Jana Bennett announced that operations would cease there in 2013, but the future of the site beyond that is uncertain.
