Bembridge Harbour
Isle of Wight
There has been a harbour at the mouth of the River Yar since Roman times. The modern harbour, natural in appearance, was actually built towards the end of the 19th Century, claiming tidal mudflats for more firm land and a railway connecting the new harbour with the traditional commercial centre of Brading, further upstream. Since the closure of the railway in the 1970s, the harbour now forms a marina for yachts and other pleasure boats.
