Formerly known as Wallis House
Wallis House was designed by Wallis, Gilbert and Partners, and was built between 1936 and 1942. Originally for Simmonds Aerocessories, it was then used by Beecham's Pharmaceuticals. In 2005 the premises were empty, and permission being sought to redevelop the buildings as residential flats by Barratt Homes. The building itself is now listed so needs to be preserved.
6 Dec 2007: The conversion of the old buildings is in full progress; the white buildings to the east of the site have been demolished, but the main tower (called International House) and adjacent building are the ones listed, and so remain. Planning permission from 28th November 2007 indicate the site will now have shops, restaurants and offices.
16 Mar 2010: The area is now christened the "Great west Quarter", and development continues apace. This does mean that old views relating to are no longer possible.
