Trent Park: Obelisk
Middlesex

The large Obelisk in Trent Park was brought from Wrest Park by Sir Philip Sassoon in 1934 in order to impress the Duke and Duchess of Kent, honeymooning at the estate. A channel was carved through the forest to afford a grand view of the monument from Trent Park House.

How to get here:

»

Walk: Trent Park car park - Walk to the end of the picnic area, turning left and then following the path into the forest. Continue along the path, passing by the open field on the right, and then through gates back into the forest (with an open field to the left). This eventually leads to the Obelisk. +

Additional Notes:

Unlike the small monuments in front of the obelisk, the seat was actually real at the time of filming (and still there in 1987!). In 2008 a new bench was installed, in memory of Brenda Pratt and Norma Adams.

Where to walk to next?

»

Trent Park House (back) (Mawdryn Undead). Walk down the hill towards the house. When you reach the lake follow it around to the right, then take a left hand trail into the gardens and up the hill to the house itself.
