Royal Theatre
Royal and Derngate, Guildhall Road, Northampton, NN1 1DP
The Royal Theatre was opened in 1884, designed by the renowned theatre architect C.J. Phipps. In 1927 it became home to the Northampton Repertory Players, and has been run as a producing house ever since.
In 1983 the Derngate was built next door, providing a new venue for staged events. The two organisations were merged into a single one managed by the Northampton Theatres Trust in 1999, and during 2005 the complex was redeveloped to provide a new combined entrance, with the Royal Theatre restored to its Victorian glory.
