The village of Shapwick can be dated from the Domesday Book (when it was known as Scapewic), though much of it was destroyed in a fire and then more cottages demolished in the 1950s, leaving few of the original cottages surviving. The village is also home to "The Shapwick Monster" ...

Road: A350 - The A350 runs between Poole and Blandford Forum; when you reach the junction with the B3075 (near Spetisbury), turn into the opposite road, heading northeast and crossing the river. Follow this road as it bears right and then heads up a hill (single track), and this eventually arrives at Shapwick. +

Tarrant Monkton (The Awakening). Road (6.6 miles, 24m) : Follow the High Street out of the village and then turn left onto the B3082. Follow this to Tarrant Keyneston and then turn right at the crossroads. Continue along this road as it bears right through Tarrant Rawston/Tarrant Rushton, and then follow it around to the left into Tarrant Monkton. The ford is at the end of the High Street to the north of the village. Parking: roadside.

Winspit Quarry (Destiny of the Daleks, The Underwater Menace). Road (21 miles, 51m) : Head out of Shapwick along West Street and follow the road as it bears left and then turn left onto the A350. Keep on the A350 as it crosses the A31 and continue along it until you reach the A3049 dual carriageway. Turn right and then head towards the A351 and Wareham. At a main roundabout, continue towards Swanage on the A351. After Corfe Castle, the B3069 is signposted to Worth Matravers and follow this until you reach a junction with a road leading to the vilage itself. Parking: £1.00 at the car park. Parking There is a public car park as you enter the village. £1.00 for the day.
