Cloford quarry became a designated site of special scientific interest in 1994, due to the limestone exposures from when the quarry was active. In 2006 permission was given by Somerset County Council to expand the quarry to retrieve more limestone, however as of 2011 the quarry is no longer is use.
How to get here:

Road: A36 - Follow the A36 to Beckington, turning west onto the A361 to Frome at the roundabout. Continue until you reach the roundabout with the A359, keeping on the road until you pass Holywell. (8.7 miles, 14m) +
There is a layby on the westward carriageway (just past Holwell), just before a turning..
There is a footpath from the road turning that leads to Cloford; the quarry is to the right of the path once you pass the field.
