Powis Castle
Welshpool, Powys, SY21 8RF
Powis Castle dates back to the 12th Century, with occupants ranging from the house of Gwynedd through to the Herbert family (1578); it briefly became a Parliamentarian garrison outpost during the Civil War. It was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1952, but remained in private ownership until 1988.

Road: A5 - At Shrewsbury, take the A458 towards Welshpool. When you reach the town, keep following the A458/A490 until you reach Red Lane on the right, then follow this to Powis Castle (National Trust signposted). Parking: National Trust. +
